Transition | Pre-production: Props and Set Design

We knew from the script that it was absolutely vital that we put in a lot of effort to make sure that our filming location looked like a veterinary practice, and in his feedback from the script, Simon reiterated this point.  Therefore, we got hold of a number of props to help with the mis en scene of the film, including posters, leaflets, a stethoscope, paperwork, scrubs, and of course, fake blood.

Katie and Melissa both helpfully printed posters and Melissa got hold of leaflets which could all be used to help decorate the set to make it look like a vets surgery.  I took it upon myself to get the medical props, so I bought syringes, vinyl gloves, face masks and a stethoscope, as well as Dr Stewart's scrubs which he would perform the surgery in.  As mentioned in a previous post, I also had a lot of fake blood left over from last year's directions unit which would feature in this film as well.

We also had some other miscellaneous props that we either already had or bought just in case.  We bought a cork board to attach the leaflets to, as well as some bedsheets for the surgery scene and various metal tools that looked clinical enough to feature in the surgery scene.

We agreed that I would purchase all the props and then we would divide the costs afterwards in case any further expenses cropped up closer to the shoot day.
